Six Australian women will begin their 2009 campaigns at the Queensland Tennis Centre attempting to qualify for the Brisbane International.

Such is the strength of the tournament, the cut off for the qualifying event was a world ranking of 166.

Jessica Moore (ranked 138) and Anastasia Rodionova (98) qualified courtesy of their rankings, while Emelyn Starr (414), Monique Adamczak (232), Sophie Ferguson (272) and Marija  Mirkovic (422) were all given wildcards.

Moore has drawn a tough first-up match against 25-year-old world No.84 Roberta Vinci from Italy, while Rodionova meets Ferguson. Starr is up against German 20-year-old Julia Goerges (ranked 108), Adamczak meets China’s Zi Yang (126) and Mirkovic takes on 33-year-old Rossana De Los Rios (95) from Paraguay.

Matches start at 10:00 am.

The men’s qualifying event will start on Saturday.
