Tennis fans will travel free to the Brisbane International in 2010.

Confirmed today, Brisbane International ticket holders can travel for free with TransLink on QR trains and Brisbane Transport services.

Regular scheduled services will run on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines stopping at Yeerongpilly train station for the duration of the event with maxi taxi shuttles available for people with special needs.

A shuttle bus will also be available to transfer Ipswich line passengers between Corinda station and the tournament.

Brisbane International Tournament Director Steve Ayles said the inclusion of free public transport within the tournament tickets means the event is accessible to all tennis fans.

“We are excited to be working with TransLink again to provide the best possible access to the Brisbane International,” Ayles said.

“All Queensland tennis fans have the opportunity to see a star-studded line-up in 2010 including Andy Roddick, Gael Monfils, James Blake, Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin and Ana Ivanovic and without the extra cost of transport.

“2010 is shaping up to be even bigger and better than last year and with transport included in the ticket price it is the best value ticket in town.”

TransLink CEO Peter Strachan said 80 per cent of tennis fans enjoyed the public transport atmosphere to and from the inaugural Brisbane International in January this year.

“We’re proud to again be involved with this magnificent tournament,” Mr Strachan said.

“We reviewed our public transport arrangements with Tennis Australia after the last event and listened to our customers and I believe that percentage of tennis fans will be even higher for the 2010 event.

“Of all the options we explored, a 15–20 minute train journey from the city to Yeerongpilly station was considered ideal.

“Access between the station and the Queensland Tennis Centre will continue to be enhanced with a pedestrian bridge over Fairfield Road being constructed before the 2011 event.”

Pre-purchased Brisbane International event tickets can be used for travel on QR trains and Brisbane Transport services on the day of the ticketed event.

Event tickets purchased at the Queensland Tennis Centre venue, on the day of the event, are only valid for free post-event travel.

The Queensland Tennis Centre is a 10–15 minute walk from Yeerongpilly train station, about the same distance from Milton train station to Suncorp Stadium.

There will be additional standby trains travelling to the city on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights of the event, to service passengers should the night match finish late.

Thirty-five train services on the Beenleigh line will increase from three car carriages to six cars over the eight days of the tournament and customer service staff will be on hand at Yeerongpilly train station to help people with their transport options.

Maxi taxi shuttles will operate every day of the tournament between Yeerongpilly train station and the Queensland Tennis Centre and regular timetabled bus services on routes 104 and 105 buses will also be available which stop next to the Queensland Tennis Centre.

A shuttle service will also be available for Ipswich line customers from Corinda station, starting at 9:00 am between January 3 and 9 and at 11:30 am on 10 January. Services will continue until one hour after the final match of the day.

Brisbane International 2010 series packages and single sessions are on sale now. Ground passes remain $9.90 with the qualifying event on Friday 1–2 January 2010 remaining free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketek.com.au or 1300 888 104.

For further details on transport, visit the TransLink website www.translink.com.au or phone the call centre on 13 12 30 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

That is really convenient, hey what is the difference between Cat A and Cat B tickets?

  • http://www.tennis.com.au Tennis Australia

Hi John, Category A tickets are in the lower level, while Category B tickets are in the upper level. Check out the map of Pat Rafter Arena: http://www.brisbaneinternational.com.au/wp-cont…

Just checking – it mentions that the qualifying event on 1 and 2 jan are free – is there anything to pay to get into the centre?

  • JohnW

The free trains are great thanks. Are the shuttle taxis free also, if not how much do they cost?

  • A McKinnon

It would be lovely as the event gets bigger to see free transport extend to the use of buses from Chermside direct to the Tennis Centre.

  • Richard

We are travelling down by car from the Sunshine Coast for the day session on Thursday. Where is the best place to park and how do we get to the venue.

  • kenholthusen

I thought one of the original ideas was to have city cat ferry services extend to the tennis centre – how much more enjoyable that would be, and provide a window to Brisbane by using the City's No.1 attraction (Citycat).

Was anything ever done to deal with the “frying” of spectators in the stadium from direct sun? Clearly there has been a major deficiency in the stadium design, and I'm unsure whether to attend this year for fear of being subject to this extreme discomfort?

  • Denis Hopking

Please indicate the options for car parking at the event – will this still be possible at the Golf Club as it was last year?

  • Marion

We are also planning on coming down from the Sunshine coast. Wondering the best place to park and make use of the free transportation. Is it just the Beenleigh Line that is free, if not how far does the free transportation zone extend? Thanks

Hi Karen, no there is nothing to pay to watch the qualifying events. Please note, qualifying matches will be played on the outside courts, not in Pat Rafter Arena.

    wear a hat

  • Richard

The website does not provide the information on the best places to park a car and then get to the venue. It relies on you taking public transport. Please advise the best place to park the car for the day and either take public transport of preferably walk to the tennis.

  • Bill

Are you able to use public transportation for free if you have a “Grounds Pass” or do you need a “Session” Ticket?

  • Margaret

Will we be able to have a look in Pat Rafter Arena if we attend the qualifying matches ?

  • Deb

Wouldn't it be great if brisbane transport put on direct buses from major centres (ie Chermside) as they do for other major sporting events?? What's the story State Govt????

  • http://www.tennis.com.au Tennis Australia

Hi Denis, take a look at the car parking page in the Event Guide: http://www.brisbaneinternational.com.au/event-g…

  • Elizabeth O'Connor

Free transport is fine if you are near a train station. How about buses as you do for rugby League & Union from Carindale bus Centre ? Or do we have to go to the expense of a cab?

  • Janice

I will be catching train from Ipswich to Corinda. How long will it take to get from Corinda to the Stadium?

You should realise the Brisbane International tournament is officially an outdoor event. Any shade provided in Pat Rafter stadium is a bonus, and not a design deficiency.

  • Shirley

We live in Cleveland & it will take us 1.5hrs. by train or we can drive there in 40mins which we did last year & parked at the Golf Club. It seems with NO parking this year the train in the only option

  • Liane

I think a shuttle service from either Garden City or Carindale to the Tennis Centre would be beneficial for patrons travelling from the southside and south-east. You can go on a shuttle bus for the AFL or Roar games.

We are in Brisbane for a visit from the UK and we attended the Pat Rafter stadium yesterday for the day matches. The whole stadium is usually completely shaded because of the roof cover. However later in the afternoon the sun does tend to shine directly into the stadium on the western side onto the middle higher tier seating. The stadium is designed to catch the breezes and was nice and cool. We have been to a lot of tennis matches all round the world and this is definitely the best stadium we have been to for its size, with good spacious seating, excellent signage and good access. Also the toilets were very clean. We also like the way the tennis centre is used by the local community. Well done Brisbane you’ve done a grand job here.
