Nervous players preparing to contest the Brisbane International will find out their collective first-round fates on Saturday when the draw is held in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.

This year there are a swarm of dangerous unseeded players hiding in the draw ready to sting any unsuspecting opponents.

Former world No.1 Justine Henin, back for her first tournament since retiring while holding the world No.1 spot in May 2008, is the Queen of the unseeded legion at this year’s Brisbane International.

Standing alongside Henin and hoping to cause some carnage in the draw are Richard Gasquet, the former top 10 Frenchman, and Australians Alicia Molik, Casey Dellacqua and Jelena Dokic.

Reigning men’s champion Radek Stepanek and Russia’s Nadia Petrova will be on hand to assist with tomorrow’s draw duties.

The draw will be held opposite Myer in the Queen Street Mall, giving fans the opportunity to hear from Stepanek and Petrova, who will be interviewed by MC Craig Willis.

At the inaugural Brisbane International, Czech Radek Stepanek surprised a competitive men’s field featuring Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Marcos Baghdatis to upset fancied Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in a tight men’s final.

A top 20 regular and former top 3 player, Nadia Petrova has nine WTA Tour titles to her name and is a dual French Open semifinalist.

Fans are invited to come and watch the draw as the Brisbane International prepares for the main draw, which begins this Sunday.

Like to know who I am going to see play tomorrow, very disappointed you buy tickets and still don’t know who is playing on sunday, not well organized

I hope that Ana is in much better form this year.
    Go, Ana!

I agree – my son only wants to see Roddick play but now it looks like he will miss out as I can’t get seats together for Sunday or Monday when he is likely to be playing – all because there was no schedule of play. Seems very strange to me that the order of play is not out earlier…. They must have pretty good idea when they are playing the top players.

What?? Justine Henin vs Nadia Petrova already in the first round? And also Jelena Dokic vs Ana Ivanovic? Wow, the bottom half is relatively a tougher group, hmmm

Unfortunately a schedule for tennis is not as easy as it is for other sports. Order of plays are pretty much released the day before play at every tournament. It’s all good for tournament organisers to say they want roddick to play first on Sunday, but then what happens if he draws a qualifer (the men qualifers are not finished till monday).

    How about the mens side?

Paul Henri-Mathieu is not playing as he has withdrawn from this tournament.

Damn Paul-Henri isn't playing. Is it normally the top half of the draws on the first day or is it random?

    Henin vs. Petrova
    Querrey vs. Blake
    Ivanovic vs. Dokic
    Fish vs Baghdatis
    Gasquet vs. Nieminen

    Awesome first round matches!

Brisbane Golf Club told me that there is parking the same as last year and Rotary Rocklea are handling it, but your website says there is no parking. I also heard that parking was available at the Golf Club on the radio. It is very confusing.
