Magnificent Monday schedule at the Brisbane International

3 January 2010, by Brisbane International Tennis

A trio of former world No.1players will headline an amazing day of tennis at the Brisbane International tomorrow. Three quality Australian players will also be in action on Pat Rafter Arena during the two sessions.

Seven time Gand Slam champion Belgian Justine Henin will make her much-anticipated return to the Sony Ericsson WTA tour in a tough day-session match up with number two seed Nadia Petrova from Russia.

The tantalising match-up between Jelena Dokic and Ana Ivanovic will also feature on Pat Rafter Arena during the day session.

But a very high quality ATP World Tour men’s match will open proceedings on Monday. Former world number seven Richard Gasquet from France (now No.52) will play former world number 11 Jarkko Nieminen (now No.88) from Finland.

As night falls on the Queensland Tennis Centre defending champion Czech Radek Stepanek begins his assault of the 2010 title against popular Brisbane youngster John Millman.

Then the thunderbolts will rain down on Pat Rafter Arena when the world’s fastest server Andy Roddick steps on court against popular Australian Davis Cup player Peter Luczak.

“This is a dream line-up” Brisbane International Tournament Director Steve Ayles said.

“These matches would headline any tennis tournament in the world and we have them all on the same day in Brisbane.

“It is a mouth-watering schedule and what makes it even more intriguing is the unpredictable nature of it.

“Those two women’s matches in particular could go either way. The only certainty is that Queensland tennis fans are in for a feast of world-class tennis.”
