Back to Mauresmo to back up against Bartoli

Mauresmo to back up against Bartoli

9 January 2009, by Brisbane International Tennis

Former world No.1 Amelie Mauresmo continues her tennis renaissance today when she plays in the semifinals of the Brisbane International against French compatriot Marion Bartoli.

The all-French semi means that there will be at least one French player in the final of what has been a tournament dominated by talent from France.

The two have opposed each other on court four times, with Bartoli yet to chalk up a win. Their most recent meeting was in Strasbourg in 2007.

Mauresmo, currently ranked 24 after a string of injuries, scored her first victory over a top-10 player in two years when she upset top seed Ana Ivanovic in straight sets yesterday.

Bartoli also easily won her quarterfinal 6-3 6-3 against Italy’s Tathiana Garbin.

The winner will meet either second seed Victoria Azarenka or Sara Errani who play each other in the other semifinal in the first match at Pat Rafter Arena today.
