Day 2 of qualifying at the Brisbane International sees the men join the girls on the Queensland Tennis Centre courts.

More than 20 Australians will be in action at the Queensland Tennis Centre tomorrow. Among them is Queensland 16-year-old Jason Kubler who will square off against another talented teenager Matt Reid, in one of the more intriguing match-ups of the day.

Qualifying top seed, Belgian Xavier Malisse has a first round bye as do Australians Marinko Matosevic and Brydan Klein. Australians feature in every men’s qualifying match tomorrow and eight of those contests will be all-local affairs.

Some of those include Australian Open wildcard play-off winner Nick Lindahl, former Davis Cup squad member Sam Groth and talented West Australian Matt Ebden.

On the women’s side, four out of the seven Australians who entered qualifying are through to the second round.
In a day of mixed results for the Australians, Melbourne trio Sally Peers, Olivia Rogowska, Jarmila Groth and Anastasia Rodionova won their matches while Monika Wejnert, Isabella Holland and Jess Moore lost.

The tenacious Peers overcame a 5-0 deciding deficit and saved two match points to produce a stunning first-round qualifying win 2-6 6-2 7-6(6) over 174th-ranked Andrea Hlavackova from Czech Republic. The 313th-ranked Melbourne teenager will play Russian Alla Kudryavtseva tomorrow.

Rogowska (ranked 145) enjoyed a 6-2 7-6(4) win over Belarusian Anastasiya Yakimova (109). She now meets Evgeniya Rodina from Russia.

Groth, playing her first match back from ankle surgery, overpowered Russian Elena Chalova (No.152) 6-3 6-3 and will play eighth-seeded Galina Voskoboeva from Kazakstan tomorrow afternoon.

Fifth-seeded Rodionova overpowered West Australian Jessica Moore 6-4 6-0 in just under two hours. Rodionova will meet Germany’s Kathrin Woerle who outlasted Darya Kustova in a long three-setter.

Gold Coast teenager Monika Wejnert (379) suffered a 6-3 6-1 loss to the powerful-hitting Ukraine Mariya Koryttseva (118) and fellow Queenslander Isabella Holland (324) endured a 6-3 7-5 loss to Russian Ekaterina Ivanova (141).

In other matches, top-seeded Akgul Amanmuradova was upset by Michaella Krajickek, second-seeded qualifier Yung-Jan Chan survived an early scare to defeat Brit Naomi Cavaday, while fellow seeds Evgeniya Rodina and Arantxa Parra Santonja progressed, while sixth-seeded Sandra Zahlavova was bundled out by American Madison Brengle.
