India’s Sania Mirza and American Bethanie Mattek-Sands have taken out the women’s doubles final at the Brisbane International, upsetting fourth seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and Czech Kveta Peschke.
The unseeded Mirza and Mattek-Sands mounted a comeback to register a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over their higher-ranked opponents.
They had already taken out the second-seeded pairing of Liezel Huber and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the quarterfinals and experienced pair Katarina Srebotnik and Daniela Hantuchova in the semifinals coming into Saturday night’s final.
