Rod Laver has been bestowed another honour – Life Membership of Tennis Queensland.
Prior to Roger Federer’s second-round match versus Jarkko Nieminen, Laver was presented with a medallion by the Honourable Steve Dickson, Minister for Sport, in front of a packed Pat Rafter Arena.
“It certainly is a thrill to be here,” said Laver. “It’s a huge honour to receive this lifetime award here and to be able to be here and watch this tournament, it’s really a huge thrill to see where tennis has gone.”
