Date-Krumm, Gavrilova in qualifying fray

1 January 2015, by brisbaneinternational.com.au

Recent Australian Open Wildcard Playoff finalists Daria Gavrilova and Arina Rodionova lead a swag of Australian hopefuls on the opening day of women’s qualifying at the Brisbane International today from 10am.

Wildcard Playoff winner Gavrilova will hope to ride her run of recent form on Australian soil when she kicks off proceedings against Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic, while Rodionova faces a tough ask taking on 44-year-old veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm as the Japanese former world No.4 continues her comeback from injury.

For the second year running, Kazakhstan’s former world No.25 Yaroslava Shvedova has missed the cut-off rank for a direct entry into the main draw by one place, with the top seed drawing a challenging opener against Argentina’s Paula Ormaechea.

In an all-Australian tussle, Anastasia Rodionova will square off against wildcard Storm Sanders, while Olivia Rogowska begins against Ukraine’s Maryna Zanevska.

Entry to day one of qualifying at the Queensland Tennis Centre is free with matches beginning at 10am on the outside courts.
