It’s Nishikori v Tomic on Friday

7 January 2016, by brisbaneinternational.com.au

For the second time in two years, it’s a battle between Kei Nishikori and Bernard Tomic for a spot in the Brisbane International semifinals.

Friday afternoon the two stars will clash a year after Nishikori, the Japenese star ranked No.8 in the world, downed the Gold Coaster 6-0, 6-4.

Tickets are still available for the afternoon session, which will begin at 11am AEST inside Pat Rafter Arena.

A year on, Tomic would like to exact revenge following a pair of solid opening-round wins at Queensland Tennis Centre this week.

“Maybe I can get off to better start than I did last year where he won the first set 6-0,” Tomic mused Wednesday night. “He played very, very well. He’s a very tough player to beat. I have to try and focus on the things, on my weapons. I will get chances for sure.”

Tomic is ranked a career-high No.18 and coming off a 2015 that saw him win a third career ATP World Tour title. He’s now set his sights on the top 10.

“He’s one of the very talented players (on tour),” Nishikori said. “He has great serve and he reads (the return) very good. I’m sure he’s going to be playing better and better the next few years.”
