Hantuchova withdraws from Brisbane International3 January 2011
Daniela Hantuchova has withdrawn from the Brisbane International due to a partial tear to her left achilles tendon.
The Slovakian was due to play Russian Anna Chakvetadze today but will be replaced by the highest ranked player who lost in the final round of qualifying, another Russian, Ksenia Pervak.
Brisbane International Tournament Director Steve Ayles said he was disappointed for Hantuchova.
“Daniela is a great person and a huge supporter of the Brisbane event,” Ayles said.
“We are disappointed for her as we know how much she loves this event and was hoping to compete for the third year in a row.
“We wish her all the best for her recovery and hope to see her back out on the court soon.”
Pervak lost her final qualifying match yesterday to Anastasia Pivovarova, 3-6 7-6(3) 6-7(3). The 19 year old is currently ranked No.97 in the world and will play her first-round main-draw match today.comments powered by Disqus
