Flavia Pennetta and Marcel Granollers have both pulled out of the Brisbane International. Pennetta will be replaced by Christina McHale while Australia’s Peter Luczak comes in for Granollers.
Pennetta, who has withdrawn with a gastrointestinal illness, was due to play countrywoman Roberta Vinci today but that task will now be tackled by lucky loser McHale from America.
Brisbane International Tournament Director Steve Ayles said he hoped Flavia has a speedy recovery.
“This would have been Flavia’s first Brisbane International and I know she was looking forward to the event,” Ayles said.
“We are disappointed for her and wish her all the best for her recovery.”
McHale lost her final qualifying match to Lucie Hradecka, 6-3 6-1. The 18 year old is currently ranked No.109 in the world and will play her first-round main-draw match today.
Granollers has pulled out due to a right ankle injury, paving the way for Australian favourite Luczak to join the main draw.
This will be Luczak’s second Brisbane International. He has was knocked out in the first round last year by eventual champion, Andy Roddick 7-6(5) 6-2.
Luczak will play Kevin Anderson from America in the second match to play on Show Court 2.
